Father's Day is a day to celebrate your dad. Let him know you appreciate everything he's done.
Let him know he's special.
Let him know .... Let him think .... he's cool.
It was always so hard for me to get my dad a gift. For some reason it was just easier shopping for my mom. We like the same things .... We cook the same foods .... I like what she likes! But when it came to my dad, my brothers and I were always at a totally loss. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate the gifts. My dad always put on a big smile and said he loved everything, but in the days and months after Father's day we never actually saw him use his gifts. I mean, the space pen was so cool. My dad could have totally gone to space and that pen would have worked while floating upside down in that shuttle! You could literally be floating upside down and the pen still worked! Who doesn't need that!?
Well after countless random presents my brother's and I just started making my dad handmade cards. We'd buy him a Costco shirt and call it a day. Last year my dad passed away. Three weeks before Father's Day actually. I had just launched Lilyshop and the site looked like a blank canvas with glitches at every corner. I didn't even have one blog post! I wanted to do something cool that my Dad would have really liked so I wrapped presents with ties and suspenders and posted the pictures. People loved it! It got re-blogged on Tumblr so many times and it made me smile because my dad would have loved it. It wasn't just fun, it was practical too.
Alright, I am telling you to step it up and give your Father's Day present a little something extra this year! All you need is some wrapping paper, a glue gun, and some manly accessories. Please give your dad a hug for me.
The Fancy Dad
Make sure to use papers that go with the Father's Day theme. The present is meant to look like a t-shirt so use striped paper, polka dots, or plain wrapping paper. The bow tie is just a normal bow tie and you can buy a new one as part of your father's day gift or use one you already have or pick one up at a thrift shop (if your dad never wears a bow tie). I did not glue the tie down. You can tighten the bow tie to fit around your box. I did however glue the buttons down.
The Working Dad
For this gift I used regular suspenders and buttons (again I glued the buttons but not the suspenders).
Here is a picture of the back. So handsome!
Wrap your box like you normally would then wrap a tie around the box. The tie would ideally be part of your gift or you could always use one you already have.
For this particular present, the tie and the pen are part of the gift. I wrapped a new tie around the box (which has a dress shirt inside) and then cut off a pocket from an old t-shirt. I hot glued the edges of the pocket down and stuck a brand new pen inside with a little Father's Day card.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there.
I love you Dad.
