T-Shirt Grocery Bags

T-Shirt Grocery Bags

On January 1st the City of Calabasas (where Lilyshop is headquartered) put a ban on plastic bags at the markets, drug stores, restaurants, and any other store in the city that would normally use a plastic bag for purchased goods. Now while I appreciate that this is a step in the right direction to reduce landfill waste and pollution issues I couldn't help but be a little annoyed the first time I went into Babies"R"us to stock up on diapers, wipes, and a dozen or so of those glass baby food jars. When I got to the checkout and they asked for my reuseable bags I thought %@$&!!! So, I purchased one of those ugly reuseable bags and then on the way home I got to thinking .... maybe I could make some cuter bags?

Introducing the Tank Top Reuseable Bag! Isn't it cute? You can really use whatever tank you have. I want to make a couple more with better patterns and maybe some fun colors .... but you get the idea.

What You Need
Heavy-weight tank top (Preferably with thicker straps; no spaghetti straps)

Pins

Sewing machine

Instructions
1. Turn your tank top inside out and pin the bottom along the hem. Using a sewing machine, sew the bottom of the tank closed. Once the tank is sewn, turn it inside out and you're DONE! (Quick Tip: If you want to make the bag more durable overlap the material and sew a double seam.)

Get creative and use tanks with logos, patterns, etc.

Super cute idea. I am going to try this. I am not a great sewer but it does not look hard to do.

Wow, I really love these. I don't have a sewing machine. I will try to hand stitch. Wonder if it will be strong enough??

That sounds so cool. Just wonder how they hold up.. Probably better than plastic bags.. If they hold us up-- they ll hold our groceries. Thanks for sharing!
